What is Swoopo?
Welcome to Swoopo, the home of exciting, fast-paced auctions on the internet.
Every day we sell brand new top-name products at incredibly low prices in auctions that start at just $0.12 with no reserve. Take a look at the items we're currently auctioning, and if one takes your fancy, why not buy some bids? They're only $0.65 each.
With each bid placed, the price of the item increases by $0.12. When you bid, we also reset the counter back up to a maximum of 20 seconds - to give someone else the chance to bid too if they're interested. If no-one else bids and the counter reaches zero, congratulations: you've won yourself a bargain on Swoopo! .
Even if you don't win the auction, you never have to leave Swoopo empty handed. Any time after you've placed your first bid in an auction, you can choose to buy the product for a discount, getting back the cost of the bids you placed in that auction. You'll never have to pay more than the Worth Up To price for any products on Swoopo. The auction will continue as usual, so other bidders can battle it out.

How does the BidButler work?
An easy, illustrated introduction as to how the BidButler works can be found here: http://www.swoopo.ca/bidbutlerhelp.html.
The BidButler bids for you when you haven't got the time to follow a live auction. Simply choose your price range and the maximum number of bids that you want the BidButler to use. The BidButler will then bid automatically for you within your price range.
How does the BidButler know when to bid?
If there is just one BidButler booked to bid in an auction, the bids will be placed automatically within your range at any point within the final ten seconds. The countdown will then extend to a maximum of 20 seconds for each bid that is placed.
If there are two or more BidButlers bidding against each other, all the consecutive BidButler bids are placed immediately, and the price and countdown increase with each BidButler bid placed. The countdown will extend to a maximum of 20 seconds per bid.
All auctions will count down from 24 hours with no time added to the counter for bids placed before the timer has reached 2 minutes. Once the timer has reached below 2 minutes the counter will extend to a maximum of 20 seconds per bid placed and will not increase the timer beyond 2 minutes regardless of how many bids are placed. This means that once an auction has gone below 2 minutes, further bids placed will never increase the counter over 2 minutes.
Hint: Ensure that the price ranges you choose are not too close together.
Why did the auction end before my BidButler bids were placed?
The auction can end before your minimum BidButler range has been reached. The BidBulter can only join the auction within the given price range. This ensures that we offer the lowest prices for our products. All unused bids will be returned to your account.
What happens to bids that are not used by my BidButler?
Unused bids will be returned to your account.
This can happen when your BidButler isn't able to use all of your bids within the given price range or when the auction is won at a lower price than you instructed your BidButler to bid between.
All unused bids are returned to your account as soon as the auction ends.

Can you give me some advice about how to bid?
We often get asked by people how to improve their chances of winning an auction on Swoopo.
There’s no "sure-fire" winning strategy, but here are a few tips to help you get started, as well as a few of the traps that novice bidders sometimes fall into.
Place your bid late
Watch the countdown and try to jump in and bid in the last few seconds. If the timer has reached the last few seconds, you know that it will end unless another bid is placed. (Don’t leave it too late though, or you might miss out)
Start with the cheapest products
Although you can get some incredible bargains on our most expensive items, they also tend to be the most competitive auctions, attracting hundreds of bidders. Our cheaper products tend to have fewer bidders, meaning you’re much more likely to win.
Use the BidButler to your advantage
The BidButler is a powerful tool, if you get the timing right you can scare off other bidders by placing one. Nobody likes to see their bids matched over and over again by your all conquering BidButler, you might just persuade them to give up and try again next time.
Turn their BidButlers against them
On the other hand, some people have a ‘fire and forget’ policy with the BidButler. It is easy to swoop in and win with a quick single bid if your rival has gone to make a cup of coffee safe in the knowledge that their BidButler will protect them.
We’ve noticed that users tend to set the ‘Bid To’ value of their BidButlers to a round number, so watch out for this and you might be able to snap up a bargain by simply clicking on the “Bid” button when a BidButler has just finished.
Keep an eye on what other bidders are up to
You can see the details of the last ten bids placed: try to work out who’s bidding and when they’re bidding. It’s all about timing, so maybe you can work out when the right time is to jump in and grab the lot.
Scout out the competition
Look and see how many different bidders have recently bid on an auction. You’re more likely to win if there are fewer bidders interested in the item than if there are lots of competing bidders.
Bid at the right time of day
The number of bidders varies throughout the day – smart bidders can use this to pick up bargains by bidding when others are busy having breakfast or taking the dog for a walk.
Fine-tune your BidButler
If you use the BidButler to bid on your behalf, it’s best not to set your ‘Bid To’ value to a round number – other bidders will be watching out for this (see above!).

I've placed a bid but I am currently not the highest bidder, why?
When a bid is placed, it will always be the highest bid, but might get out-bid very quickly. This can happen if there are many bidders or if there's another user's BidButler bidding on the auction too. You might not see this simply because other bids have been placed with a few seconds of each other - sometimes even within the same second!

Substitute items
On rare occasions we are no longer able to source the specific item detailed in the auction. When this happens, we will contact you and offer to send you an equivalent item of at least equal value. Many of the products we sell are high-technology items that have a short life-cycle, so often this will mean an upgrade to the newer version of the item.

How can I redeem my coupons?
We occasionally give away different types of coupons to make your Swoopo bargains even better value. Here’s an overview of some of the different coupons that are available:
Coupons linked to special offers
We sometimes give away other coupons, for example in return for completing surveys or during “happy hours” on the site. These coupons may have specific restrictions and always have an expiry date. Just like Welcome coupons, they can only be used against the final price of an auction that you’ve won.
Redeeming your coupons
Once you've won an auction, you'll automatically be transferred to a confirmation page where you'll be able to enter your coupon code. Don't forget to redeem your coupon, as once you've confirmed your win you'll no longer be able to use it. Please note, that if you use a coupon with a value that exceeds the auction end price, the remaining coupon credit will expire.

How many auctions can I win within a 28 day period?
We‘ve limited the number of auctions that you can win within 28 days to a maximum of eight. We do this so that as many people as possible have a chance of winning our amazing deals.
In addition, we limit the number of auctions that bidders can win in different auction groups. We‘ve divided them into colored groups so you can easily recognize them. Again we do this to make sure that our deals are available to as many bidders as possible and to avoid some bidders winning the same items again and again.
Why can I only bid on eight auctions at the same time?
You can only win eight auctions within 28 days. As we don‘t want you to waste any bids or time on auctions outside this limit, we block you from bidding on more than eight auctions at the same time. With every auction you win, we block one Auction slot out of these eight for 28 days until this Auction slot is free again.
Where can I see how many auctions I’m still allowed to bid on?
In the status bar at the top of the page you can see in one glance how many auctions you can bid on. Each grey dot
represents an open bidding slot.
A green dot
means that you are currently bidding on an auction where you are the highest bidder.
A grey dot with a green tick
shows an auction you've won: this slot is blocked for four weeks from the date you won the auction.

Where can I find information about my auction limits?
For more information about Auction limits please visit “My Swoopo” and read the section “Auction limits”. Here you can see which auctions you‘ve won and when you‘re allowed to bid again on a new auction in this slot.

When exactly do my auction slots get blocked?
Auction slots get blocked when you‘re bidding (i.e. have placed a Single bid or placed or booked BidButler bids) on an auction while being or having the potential to be the highest bidder. The auction slot becomes un-booked when your last placed bid has been outbid by another bidder.
How can I find out in which auction group an auction falls?

What's the difference between the auction end price and the worth up to price?
Auction end price
The auction end price is the price at which the auction ended. Only the winner of the auction can buy the item at that price. Sometimes there are special offers available on an auction such as such as "100% off", " Fixed price", etc. - again, these only apply to the winner of the auction.
Worth up to price
The worth up to price is provided as an indication of the price for which this product could be bought elsewhere.

What does international auction mean?
International auctions
Bidding is open to bidders from several Swoopo countries on most of our auctions. Doing this allows us to offer you a greater variety of products than we'd be able to do if we were to only allow bidding from one country.
Do I have less chance of winning because you allow bidding from other countries?
We always try to offer enough auctions of any item to ensure the winners get a great bargain, without us losing money, irrespective of where the bidders are located. When we find there is more interest in a certain item, we run more auctions, trying to keep the bargains on offer roughly the same. By allowing bids from several countries, we can offer even more auctions of a particular item, and auction items that would otherwise be unprofitable for us.
Why is there sometimes a different item displayed on the same auction in different countries?
We do our best to find matching products in all our markets, but sometimes it is impossible to find an exact match. To ensure the auctions remain fair, we always try to ensure that any inexact matches are of comparable products.
Are the auctions affected by bid prices being different in different countries?
We adjust our bid prices to try to reflect changes in currency exchange rates, aiming to make sure that the price of a bid is the same for all our users, and that they can buy bids in their local currency.
If the same auction is running in different countries, am I at a disadvantage by being located in one country or another?
Today's internet technologies make it almost irrelevant where you are located. Your request to place a bid reaches our servers will usually reach us in just a few milliseconds, whether you are based in New York or London. Please bear in mind, however, that certain users can, at certain times, experience a longer delay in the transfer of data.

Why hasn't my bid been registered on an auction?
Very occasionally, users tell us that even though they bid before the countdown ended, their bids did not get placed and the auction ends. In these instances, the most likely explanation is so-called "Internet lag times". These are time-delays in the transfer of data between your PC and our servers. Mostly those delays (lags) occur because single parts of the internet connection are overloaded.
This, unfortunately, is a general problem with the internet.

What happens to the auctions during system downtime?
Downtime, or outage, is an occasional and unforeseeable problem with the internet, and means that bids cannot be placed during this short period when we are offline. If we experience downtime at any point, we automatically add ten minutes on to the auction end time, so that our bidders are not left at a disadvantage. It is impossible to place any bids whilst the system is experiencing downtime, so any bids attempted during this period will not be debited from your account. If this situation does occur, we advise you to refresh your screen regularly, either by pressing F5 or the refresh button on your browser.

We now offer a new type of auction, which means that at a certain point in time, our auctions will become closed to new bidders. This means that just those who have placed at least one single click bid on the auction can continue to bid - giving our bidders a higher chance of winning and ensuring things heat up a bit. Swoopo reserves the right to choose when the closing point for each auction is, which is why we cannot let you know beforehand at which point auctions will become closed to new users. This new function will make our auctions more exciting, and subsequently offers you better chances of winning our auctions.
What should I bear in mind?
If you have booked a BidButler to bid on the auction and the auction becomes a “closed” auction before your BidButler's minimum price is reached, the bids will be returned to your account if you've not yet placed at least one single click bid on the auction. If you have not placed any bids on the auction at the point when the auction becomes closed, you will not be able to take part in the auction.

What is Swoop it Now?
Swoop it Now offers you the possibility to purchase the product you're interested in at any time during the auction.
We ensure that the products offered for Swoop it Now are available in sufficient amounts, so there is no limit as to how many individuals can decide to take advantage of Swoop it Now.
You should note that the auction will continue as normal for all other users if an individual opts to Swoop it Now, but that individual will not be able to bid on that auction anymore.
A percentage of the purchased or compensation bids you place on an auction are offered as a discount off of the price of the item.
The percentage discount rate varies by auction and is between 1% and 100% of the sale price for the item; you can see this percentage rate in the blue Swoop it Now box on each auction (where it is available). The Swoop it Now percentage discount rate is visible as soon as the 24 hour countdown begins and remains fixed for the duration of each auction.
The Swoop it Now price is only reduced by bidding with 'Compensation Bids' or 'Purchased Bids' obtained using the 'Buy Bids' section of your account. Bid bundles attached to an auctioned item, ‘FreeBids’, auctioned bid bundles or bids placed by telephone do not reduce the Swoop it Now price.
Swoop it Now is not available on every auction, if you see this symbol
in the top right hand corner of the auction page then you know that Swoop it Now is not an option for this auction.
The Swoop it Now price can't fall below $0.00, even if the discount rate for the auction is set at 100% and the discounted sum of all bids is more than the price of the item. We’ll let you know when you have placed enough bids to reach the maximum discount rate on an auction in a pop up information box; you can of course close this pop up box and continue bidding on the auction.
